A Taste of the Past

The first hour or more was not recorded as I failed to realize that I did not click the record button on my video capture software. The following is a brief synopsis of what occurred prior to the beginning of the recording: After the previous fight against the giants and trolls the party was rejoined by nadrat. He was uncomfortable from trying to eat some of the dead troll and had a belly ache. The party decided to set camp and had a meal while remembering the fallen knights and Koda gave thanks to St. Terragnis that Lena had survived the ordeal. A watch order was established and after the first 2 watches had passed uneventfully Koda took up the last watch. While investigating what seemed like just a trick of the light Koda heard a voice call out from the darkness that seemed familiar and seemed to know him. The voice claimed that “we” were sent to take care of you but it was not made aware that Koda was included in the party they were supposed to “take care of”. Once Koda realized that they intended to harm his friends he ran back invisibly to the camp and screamed for them all to wake up while kicking out the fire and after some more comments from the invaders battle commenced. Within a few moments of the attack the leader of the group made his identity known, claiming to be the Father Orren that Koda had known when he was young. He tried to persuade Koda to “join them” promising that Dorak was a much better patron than St. Terragnis, while attempting to charm Koda to his side. This angered Koda who shrugged off the magical influence and rebuked the claim that the undead creature was the mentor of his youth. Koda casted protection from evil on Lena and asked her to lead them in the fight. Sylvanna casted cloudkill, injuring 3 of the enemy including the leader. Arioth summoned a pet and Lena squared off against one of the undead. Broose sang a chant of battle that inspired Lena and it seemed a fairly even fight until Nadrat let loose a fireball that severely injured a pair of the assailants. The next round of battle seemed to be a brief stalemate as Koda tragically missed his attack upon the undead leader after giving what was intended to be an inspiring speech. The enemies seemed to have an unnatural healing ability as the pair of enemies began to rise back from death quickly after falling. Broose and Nadrat realized the nature of their enemy and ordered their fellows to drive a wooden stake through their hearts after they had fallen and before they could rise again. This was a slow but steady work and the party was making progress enough that the leader attempted to flee. This is around the time that I realized that I was not recording the game.
